BUSSI AUS WIEN at AIL

BUSSI AUS WIEN is a project by Nora Mayr and Julischka Stengele, inviting artists to develop works in response to selected routes and to present them in a publication.

You can find the publicatons at Café Exchange and at other selected BUSSI Stops all over Vienna

AIL is a BUSSI Stop.

Come to Café Exchange and pick up your BUSSI Artist Book.

We asked the curators and creators Julischka Stengele and Nora Mayr of the project to present it themselves:

What is Bussi?

How does it work?

Is it really for free?

Firstly: yes, our beautiful booklets are really for free!

BUSSI AUS WIEN is a project that turns various corners of Vienna into sights and the buses of the Vienna public transport system into tour buses. We invited artists to develop works in response to selected routes and to present them in the publications. Each route has its own BUSSI brochure, which, similar to a travel guide, makes it possible to (re)discover the city individually by bus. With your own eyes and through those of the artists.

The first edition presents the following five lines/artists:

  • 13A Bus riding with Philipp Muerling

  • 24A Bus riding with Marlene Hausegger

  • 35A Bus riding with Stephanie Misa

  • 52B Bus riding with Brigitte Kovacs

  • 76A Bus riding with István Antal

Who is behind the project, please introduce yourself?

BUSSI AUS WIEN is a project by Julischka Stengele and Nora Mayr. We both work, as many cultural producers, in various capacities, within this project we took over the role of the curators. What connects us in our practice is the interest for public spaces, the curiosity to discover new spots within the own city, but also a passion for art projects that are stepping outside a classical white cube context.

Who designed Bussi?

We are more than grateful to Sarah Podbelsek & Gerhard Jordan , who brought BUSSI AUS WIEN to live and created such a beautiful and playful CI for us. [Editors note: both Alumni from the University of Applied Arts!]

Where else can I find Bussi?

In total we collaborated with 14 institutions and places. It was important to us to be available at a variety of spots and also throughout the city. Our booklets can be found amongst others at the Architekturzentrum Wien or Volkskundemuseum as well as selected branches of the Wiener Stadt Büchereien, the Verkehrsmuseum Remise or the feministic bookshop ChickLit. The complete list can be found on our website www.bussiauswien.at

Better be quick: they are only available as long as the stock lasts.
